Very dirty story, but if you didn't know this before buying it, you have only yourself to blame.Eliza lives on an asteroid colony founded by a splinter group of humans who wanted to escape the depravity of human society. They teach repression of sexual desire, total obedience to authority, and squelch any sense of wonder. Life to them is following routine and obedience to protocol.
Eliza is flawed. She actually has sexual desire, and she can't stop herself from indulging it. She is caught masturbating during a routine space patrol and sentenced to 2 years hard labor in the mines. After her first year, she is pardoned and selected for a suicide mission: personal aid to a group of reptilian aliens who resemble dinosaurs of the Utahraptor species. (Not velociraptor! Stop confusing the two!) Her superiors are hoping she is killed, just like the last 2 aids they assigned to them, and they even tell her so.
But it turns out her genetic flaw is exactly what the raptors like about her, especially Kraken, the fleet commander.
Most of the story is about Eliza masturbating. No way to sugarcoat it; this is the majority of the story, but there is a good reason for it. This isn't just sex and juicy narration for the sake thereof. There is an actual story going on.
Kraken likes watching her masturbate, and she is drawn to him because he is dangerous and powerful. He has the power to kill her, and yet he chooses to let her be close to his most sensitive parts. This courtship is alluring and erotic in its own way.
Her relationship with Kraken is pretty singular, though. They explore each other sexually, but beyond that they don't really get to know one another. I presume it happens between chapters, since a lot of other things happen then, but I would've liked to see how they get along when they're not exploring each other's reproductive organs.
In spite of this, it's a quick read, it's well-executed, the world it builds is consistent and logical, and the characters are believable.
The finale is unexpected, and Eliza is no damsel in distress. She fights back, and she doesn't need Kraken to save her from danger. Eliza never needs to be rescued, and Kraken never forces her to anything she doesn't want to do. Her contribution to Kraken's nest feels a bit contrived and bizarre, but it does make sense, and creates an element of an alien civilization that is different, leading to a thoughtful conclusion. Dirty as the story is, it is well-written and satisfying.

Labia. If that word has deeply offended you, this book is not for you. If swear words don’t phase you and you like the smell of sex, you’ll probably enjoy this book. I had never been extremely fond of dinosaurs, and I certainly didn’t have any dino-sex fantasies, but this book managed to somehow make a trans-species relationship sexy. I felt filthy reading this, but it was fun. The author seems to be very sensual and deeply turned on by female pleasure. In fact, the author seemed so in touch with female pleasure at points that I checked the author bio. The book, written by t’Sade, avoids gendered pronouns on the author’s biography page, using the pronoun “they” instead of “he” or “she.” This was mysterious and made me read the book a little differently, trying to track down where the voice of the storyteller seemed more masculine or feminine. The first half of the book really appealed to my deep, sexual proclivities—including things that are uncommon to say outloud. The first half of the book focuses on building up tension, mixing fear and lust in a way that encapsulates my understanding of the Japanese word “doki doki.” Sexual tension seems to be more intense when mixed with a little fear, such as the fear of being caught or the fear of being punished. The main character, Eliza, was fun to be for the duration of the book. She’s smart and pretty and horny. She’s super orgasmic. (Ok, perhaps a little too orgasmic.) The first half of the book was such good foreplay that I had actually gotten worked up into a frenzy of anticipation for the dino-sex. Yeah, I said it. Yes, I’m ashamed, but it’s true. One of the attractive qualities of this highly intelligent dinosaur is that he is big and powerful while also being considerate and gentle at the same time. The combination is a heady mixture. Big and powerful makes her feel small and delicate and protected. Considerate and gentle makes a good lover. The mannerisms of the dinosaur are cute. Loveable characters. The dinosaurs reminded me of domesticated pets, which made much of the story easy to imagine—except the sex scene. When it comes to finally seeing the dino-penis, images of dog red-rockets came to mind in a way that made me extremely uncomfortable. The author’s bio says t’Sade’s stories “explore the fringe edges of sexuality and in the epic quest of trying to write a story for ever fetish and turn-on known to the human libido.” It also states that over a hundred free stories are free on the website and mentions that even darker stories by this author could be found on another website. Although I consider myself sexually open, this book definitely went past my ordinary comfort boundaries, causing me to wonder what the “even darker stories” could include. I’m going back for more—I have to try one of these “darker” stories.
I’ve often said that what a story is about isn’t as important to me as how the story is told. I think that holds true for this book. A book on this topic could easily be much worse than this is. Yes, the central concept is kind of crazy. But, I must confess, I enjoyed the writing style. The writing waivers between erotica, space adventure, and porn.
Parts of the story are less believable or uncomfortable. The dinosaurs fighting over certain color patterns was hard for me to swallow. The scene with dinosaur eggs and cross-species mating was really a stretch for me. There were a few times that I had to remind myself to suspend my disbelief and to allow myself to get caught up in the “fantasy” aspect. (I’m not usually a fantasy reader.)
Overall, this is not my favorite book I’ve ever read, but it was smutty fun. It was nice to read a book that had sex scenes in which the characters focus on each other’s pleasure and take good care of each other. I enjoyed the way the characters interacted. I enjoyed that during non-sexual scenes of the book, the language used still seemed sexual. By using trigger words (such as pinned her, crushed her, bulged, pushed inside, cockpit) to describe space life, the author kept sex from going far from my mind. I’m certain this word-selection was intentional and I enjoyed the suggestive words sprinkled through space-life scenes. This book takes something considered really deviant and perverted and makes it mostly palatable. Mostly. I did cringe a few times.
